Today, March 8th, we celebrate International Women's Day. It's a day to celebrate women's successes in life. Their theme this year is Be Bold for Change. I think that is something we all need to really look more into. What does it really mean to stand for women? In this article I want to talk to you about how hard work results in success. Yes, like this picture says, we are ALL Wonderwomen. But we are only so IF you are willing to put in the work in life. Things don't come for free. You have to bust your butt to be great. Currently I am reading Good to Great by Jim Collins, and this is one of the biggest things for him. He talks about a culture of discipline. Holding yourself accountable in life. To often than not, especially in youth, we see people playing the victim card on so many issues, including gender. But why? I mean come on! Being a girl is great!!! This day is all about greatness of women! Gender doesn't determine greatness. I know I am NOT a victim of gender. I create my future, and refuse to let anyone but me define it, and so should you! Hard work determines success. Look around you. There are plenty of women out there who are inspiring, kind and ambitious. Those are the qualities that will take you far in life. Now applying this to sports...it's the same idea. If you want to make a top team, work hard. If you want to play in college, work hard. If you want to score the goal, make the basket, or finish first, work hard. Don't expect others to do it for you! If you are willing to put in the most effort, the results will follow. I have learned this over my time in sports, and I now carry it with everything I do. It is one of the most valuable lessons we can learn from sports. So take a reflection on this, and see if you have learned it as well. The last thing I want to say here is thank you. Thank you to all the inspiring women in my life who have helped me shape me into who I am today. I know the biggest one for me has been my mom (little shoutout to her.) She is absolutely incredible and inspires me to be great every day. I know we have our fights, but she has had the biggest impact on my life, and I love her so much. My advice, go thank the women who surround you and have helped you in your life.
