This year one of the key defenders on our team was Jordyn Knox, but this special senior leaves behind more than just her strong tackles and grit on the field. Check out the senior spotlight on Jordyn Knox! She may be small, but she is mighty. Jordan Knox-Webster is a critical defender and teammate on the Sooner team. In her four years as a Sooner, Jordan has recorded 1 very important goal against Texas in her 2015 season to equalize the game then send it on to overtime where the Sooners would go on to win the game. Jordan is one of the hardest workers out there. She is feisty and makes an impact every time she steps on the field. She was part of the Sooner team that led the program to their greatest year ever, making it to the second round of the NCAA tournament. Jordan is also one of the strongest people mentally. She suffered an ACL injury in her junior year, then came back and for her senior year will leave an impact of standards and expectations for future Sooners to follow in. Jordan is much more than a defender, she is a leader and teammate who will be remembered in so many ways. Come the end season, I took the occasion to take a deeper look at Jordan’s time as a Sooner Women’s Soccer player. This season had some great moments within it. For Jordan her favorite was her senior night. She says to her teammates, “You guys truly made it special.” Jordan is a scrappy player who never gives up no matter what kind of challenges are placed in front of her. This year, being her senior year, she exhibited this to a great extent, overcoming a knee injury from last season and earning multiple starts as well as key moments in every game. The impact left by Jordan is a truly special one. Although her foot may physically be small, she has left behind big shoes to fill. The only way to truly honor Jordan’s commitment to this program and team would be to play for the seniors. They each leave a special impact on the program and Jordan sets the standard high for what is to follow. Although her favorite moment from this season was special, Jordan says her favorite part about being a Sooner was, “meeting my best friends and getting to go through the good and bad times together. That’s something everybody gets to do.” And she’s right. The bond in which you make with your teammates is one like no other. It’s something that will never be replaced because they truly do go through everything with you, ranging from sweat and tears to scoring and cheers. Jordan is an incredible teammate to begin with. She works her butt off every time she steps on the field for those around her, which is how we all should be playing because the game is bigger than just one person. I asked Jordan to reflect on her time here as a Sooner and what she has learned through this process. She leaves this piece of advise to future soccer players, “Always have fun and never stop working hard. Be grateful for your teammates and coaches.” These two pieces of advice are so important to take in. Things don’t come for free in sports, or in life at all for that matter. But hard work can take you anywhere that you choose for it to take you. Whether it be making a tackle, scoring a goal, winning a game, or winning a championship, hard work is what drives success. Jordan comments that, “This level has taught me to push myself beyond my limit and taught me that I can do anything I want.” The other piece to Jordan’s advice is also a really important thing to remember. Your coaches and teammates are all here to benefit one another, so be thankful to what each person offers. While hard work plays a big role, some things take outside help, and what better help than that of those who you spend all this time with. They are such critical roles in how your team succeeds, but also how you can succeed as an individual. Jordan would like to be remembered as “someone that was hard working and loved the game. Someone that was always caring and would do anything for my teammates.” I couldn’t put into better words, because that is exactly how Jordan will be remembered by not only her teammates, but those who were around the game as well. She is an incredibly hard worker and it was an honor to get to play with her for her final season. Although her time as a Sooner is coming to a close, Jordan reflects on some things she will miss. She says “I’m gonna miss the support from everyone and playing one last game again.” But even though Jordan won’t be stepping on the field in uniform with the Sooner again she says, “Of course I will come back and want to be a part of things. I can’t wait to see the program grow and be proud.” Jordan is one of the hardest working players I have ever gotten the chance to play with. She is inspiring, driven, and an all around great teammate. Thank you Jordan for everything you’ve done. We are going to miss you so much!
